2013 Year in Review

First I’d like to say Happy New Year everyone! As well as happy belated holidays! Wasn’t my best year by any means but I made it through it. I hope you had a good year and I’d love to know what you got for christmas.

This year was mainly about television for me. I watched soooo many movies and television shows. 120+movies watched this year for me. This year I saw 10+ movies in theatre this year and it was definitely something I really enjoyed this year. Netflix was something I used excessively this year – but I feel like that’s the case for every college student. Some of the shows that I obsessed over this year were Game of Thrones, Teen Wolf, True Blood, The Walking Dead, Orange is the New Black, House, Supernatural, Degrassi, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Skins, and others. I loved watching all of those but there is one that I’m not feeling so hot about and that is True Blood. Season 6 is almost to the point of being too ridiculous. I may continue it – I’m not sure yet. Most of the shows I am caught up on except House, Supernatural, and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. (I’m really proud of myself for catching up so many shows).

Moving on to music – really I am pretty eclectic. I tend to like all kinds of music. My favorite album at the moment is the new Icon for Hire album. I tend to like most of the top 40 songs (I’m embarrassed to say) but other than that I enjoy my long going favorites of Brian McKnight, Prince, Fall Out Boy, etc.

Most everything beauty related I have been obsessed with this year. Make up, skin care, hair care, I’ve been obsessed with it all. As far as hair care my favorite product over all is the wet brush. I got it recently but it makes a HUGE difference. This year for body wash I have two that I have been loving and definitely plan on repurchasing. I’ve been using the Ivory body wash in the aloe scent. I like this one because first aloe is good for the skin and smells nice and subtle and is good for layering scents. It just smells fresh and clean. My second favorite body wash of the year is the Caress Tahitian Renewal. This is my exfoliating body wash – a new addition this year. I used to use a coconut scrub but that is my summer scent. I love the smell of this and how it makes my skin feel. This scent has pomegranate seeds and coconut milk in it. It’s exfoliating but not as harsh as some other exfoliants I’ve tried.

Moving on to face products – and I have a few. My absolute favorite product for this year is my Clarisonic Aria. It has made a huge difference in my skin and I love it. The Refreshing Gel Cleanser that comes with it works great and I definitely plan on repurchasing when I run out. The brush works great, you can take it in the shower, it comes with a stand, it just works great. My favorite moisturizer is the Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion. I think it is great for the winter and really moisturizes my skin. My favorite way to take off my make up is to use my Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser. I really feel like it gets all of my make up off – it makes my face feel really clean. It has a light scent – it isn’t overpowering and it’s fairly inexpensive. My favorite product for taking care of my scars is my Palmer’s cocoa butter formula, the original in the tub. Some people are iffy about the cocoa butter in the tub but I find it works well for me and for where my scars are. I’m not sure if it really makes a difference on the appearance end but it definitely makes a difference in how my scars feel – which is more important to me.

Scents and smelling good are a weakness for me. My favorite scented body lotions are from bath and body works. I like most of their scents and have many of them. Body mists I love to buy from Victoria’s Secret. My absolute favorite scent is Love Spell. I’ve been wearing it since end of middle school/early high school. I buy other scents but that is my favorite. My favorite non-scented or lightly scented lotions are either the Aveeno or the Nivea Extended Moisture. The Nivea is a new addition to my lotion collection and I find it is great for winter. My favorite perfume which is new is Pink Sugar. I only have the rollerball but I’d love to get the full size in the future. (Darn stores for being sold out everywhere).

Make up is something I have been on and off about. This year I’ve really been loving it. My favorite higher end brand is definitely Clinique and drugstore brand would probably be Milani. I also enjoy alot of Maybelline  and Estee Lauder products. My favorite lip balm and lip butter are from Nivea. The Eos lip balms are also nice for traveling or in your car. Lip balm and lotion has definitely been my two biggest purchases of the year.

Books! One of my favorite loves. I am happy to say I am out of my reading slump. Now, I only completed 17 books this year out of my goal of 20. Not bad, I hope to complete 20 this year. Hopefully my course load at school won’t have excessive amounts of reading like this past semester. Soooo…here is the list of books I read in 2013.

  • Bound by Night by Larissa Ione
  • In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks
  • The Wicked Confessions of Cecelia Stanton by Viveka Portman
  • Lucifer’s Hammer by Larry Niven
  • Supervolcano: Eruption by Harry Turtledove
  • Robopocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson
  • Dies the Fire by S. M. Stirling
  • Alas Babylon by Pat Frank
  • World War Z by Max Brooks
  • Kiss the Dead by Laurell K. Hamilton
  • Defiant in the Viking’s Bed by Joanna Fulford
  • Ink by Amanda Sun
  • Hit List by Laurell K Hamilton
  • The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa
  • Father Mine by J. R. Ward
  • Lover Mine by J. R. Ward
  • Carrie by Stephen King

As for cooking/baking this year I didn’t do as much as I had wanted but I definitely have recipes planned to try this summer when I am home. The three recipes I tried this year were a coconut pound cake, sticky chicken, and meatball subs. All of which turned out great and I plan on remaking them.

Crafting wise – this was a good year. I learned how to make a different kind of friendship bracelet, I learned how to use clay, did a lot of jewelry with beads, and I’m learning how to sew.

So to wrap everything up – I plan on doing a few new things this year. Of course there are books, crafts, beauty products, recipes, movies and plenty of other things I want to buy and try and make. But specific things I plan on doing are:

  • Journaling
  • Monthly movie posts on the blog
  • Writing something good about everyday and putting it in a jar
  • Decorating my dorm cork board
  • Losing weight and eating healthier
  • Trying different teas
  • Baking and Cooking
  • and lots of other things

How was 2013 for you? Any resolutions? Let me know in the comments.
